dc.description.abstract | Piezoelectric actuators (PAs) are increasingly used to enable precision engineering applications, but a factor which limits the precision in the motion control of PAs is the phenomenon of hysteresis. This thesis focuses on approaches for the identification and compensation of hysteresis as well as other dynamics to achieve a higher precision in the motion control over a broad range of frequencies. An approach striving in the low input frequency range is designed for the identification and compensation of Preisach hysteresis using singular value decomposition (SVD)-based least squares estimation. When the input frequency is increased, the electric and vibration dynamics of PAs are identified. At broadband frequencies, a comprehensive approach for the identification of hysteretic dynamics is developed. Based on the identified hysteretic dynamics, model-based compensators are designed to achieve precision motion over a high bandwidth. The effectiveness of the identification and compensation strategies is validated in the experimental studies. | |
