Abstract: Experiments on flow past a rotating circular cylinder in uniform flow are presented for Reynolds numbers of 110 to 1067 and at speed ratio in the range of 0 to 5. The vortex shedding and flow structure in the wake of the cylinder is investigated via dye flow visualization, particle tracking flow visualization (PTFV), hot-film anemometry measurement and particle image velocimetry (PIV) measurement. The lift and drag force exerting on the cylinder are measured using a load cell. The von Karman vortex street is observed and its characteristics are presented at low speed ratio (a < 3). At high speed ratio, the vortex shedding is found to disappear and the reappearance of the vortex shedding (as reported in literature) is not observed. Mode A and mode B vortex shedding is presented in the span wise PIV measurement. The aerodynamics forces are measured and analyzed at different Re and speed ratio.
