Abstract: A reclamation project is involved in the use of geotextile containment system; by systematic stacking, to form a bund. The challenges of using such system include the placing accuracy and the integrity of the units during installation. In this study, the use of a modified geotextile tube (M-GT) has been introduced. The theoretical development for the prediction of tensile forces in the geotextile material has been adapted from existing theories. Centrifuge modeling is used to model the installation process of a M-GT, which evaluates the tensile forces for a M-GT filled with sand and cement mixed soil (CMS). A new type of fiber optic strain gage sensor has been co-developed by the author for strain monitoring in geotextile. The field instrumentation study has been successfully conducted at the construction of geotextile containment bund in the reclamation of Pasir Panjang Terminal Phase 3 & 4.
