Abstract: The incidence of Human Immunodeficiency Virus/Acquired Immunodeficiency Syndrome (HIV/AIDS) has been on an upward climb in Singapore. A general rising trend for the other sexually transmitted infections (STIs) has also emerged in recent years. In response to these trends, this thesis sought to assess the extent of engagement in sexual risk behaviour (defined as engagement in sex with commercial sex partners and/or casual partners) in the past year in Singapore, focusing specifically on heterosexual Singapore residents, as well as to examine factors influencing condom use consistency among these people. Data for the thesis were drawn from two sources: the National Behavioural Surveillence Survey on STIs and HIV/AIDS and a series of focus group discussions conducted among heterosexual Singapore residents.
