dc.description.abstractMost of the modern scholars had the impression that under the rulership of Emperor Song Taizu (927-976), the politics of the Song dynasty was absolutely smooth and stable. In fact, the monarcha??s authority was not yet been fully established. It was until the later stage of Song Taizong (939-997), the sovereign power of the emperor was than being strengthened, consolidated and solidify. Under the rulership and leadership of emperor Taizong, the politics of the early Song dynasty in overall perspective has usually been distinguished by the three hallmarks. First, the extensive centralization of political, judicial, fiscal and military power. Second, an increase in the emperora??s absolutist exercise of power. Third, a policy of the supremacy of civilian government and values over the military. This thesis attempts to answer the question to be asked is why Taizong could become more autocratic and its government more centralized than those of previous dynasty and it influence on the politics of the early Song dynasty. It concluded that the effort made the emperor the indispensable central figure of the entire political structure to impel the stability and efficiency of the government machinary was successfully achieved.
