Abstract: Web-enabled virtual reality is an emerging technology with great potential in providing medical staff an affordable and realistic training environment. The purpose of this thesis is to develop a web-enabled medical simulation system for interventional neuroradiology procedures that can provide the trainees a high fidelity virtual environment in both visualization and haptic force feedback and let them acquire necessary skills in real operation. The thesis mainly addressed two issues: 1) Reconstruct and visualize the vascular network from the hierarchical Central Axis model. 2) Provide haptic rendering in the simulation system and give the trainees real force feedback. For the vascular model is compact and haptic computing model is fast and distributed, the simulation system can real-time visualize and response to the traineea??s operation over the Internet.
