Abstract: Numerous metal selecarboxylates have been synthesized and characterized by EA, NMR spectroscopy, ESI-MS and single crystal X-ray diffraction techniques. In this study, we discovered that the chemistry of the metal selenocarboxylates is not quite similar to the corresponding metal thiocarboxylates. Thermogravimetry and pyrolysis experiments of these metal selenocarboxylates show that they readily decompose to the corresponding metal selenides as confirmed by X-ray powder diffraction analysis. The synthesized metal selenocarboxylates have been used as precursors to prepare the corresponding metal selenide nanoparticles by one pot synthesis in solution.
