Abstract: This thesis contains three papers on the formation, composition, and effects of new venture core teams. Paper one, Different Ties for Different Needs - The Use of Networks in Core Team Recruitment in New Ventures examines how entrepreneurial firms use different types of network ties in acquiring their core team members at their startup and growth phases, taking into account varying environmental constraints, strategic needs, and inter-personal dynamics. Paper two, Ownership Imprinting on New Venture Team Formation and Composition examines effects of founding ownership structure on team hiring and team composition of young entrepreneurial firms, using imprinting mechanism as the key theoretical lens. Paper three, Change and Stability of Employment Models in Entrepreneurial Firms: The Dual Paths of Core Team Imprinting and Structural Inertia again draws on imprinting theory in examining how team composition and team stability affect the change paths of employment models from the startup to the growth phase.
