Abstract: The straightforward implementation of classic QoS techniques may not be able to address application requirements in complex systems. This thesis considers application-level quality of service in loosely coupled distributed systems such as sensor networks. For sensor networks, a particular aspect of application quality of service called Information Quality is explored in details. Three techniques are proposed, each of them represents one of the basic mechanisms of QoS management, but deeply modified to suit the particular application domain. The general approach used in this work is based on modelling of an application and consists of three stages. First is to analyze an application. Second is to identify specifics of the environment which may prevent an application from obtaining the required level of service. The third is to choose application model and a method of using this model which can overcome the environment specifics.
