Abstract: In this thesis, analogues of Prussian Blue belonging to a family of hexacyanometallates, were synthesized and deposited as thin films on various supports using the method of Electrostatic Self-Assembly (ESA). The thickness, morphology and electrochemical behaviour of the films were analysed by various techniques such as IR Spectroscopy, Visble-UV spectroscopy, AFM, SEM, XPS, X-ray Reflectivity and Cyclic Voltammetry. It was shown that Ruthenium(III) Hexacyanoferrate(II) could be obtained regardless of whether the ferrate(II) or the ferrate(III) was used in the starting reagents. Futhermore, the effects of linkage isomerism were observed in Iron(III) Hexacyanochromate and Ruthenium(III) Hexacyanochromate. When the cyclic voltammetry of the ruthenium films was done, the voltammograms showed reversible couples for all the films. It was also demonstrated that this family of cyano-complexes could be directly deposited on various supports by the ESA method. Turnbulla??s Blue and Copper(II) Hexacyanoferrate(II) multilayers were successfully deposited on gold.
