Abstract: In this thesis, the concept of UPEC is developed. A combination of the basic topology of UPECs is able to implement different modes converter operations. In this thesis, I focus on AC/DC operation. Several fundamental research issues have been identified and the respective general contributions are summarized as follows: Prototype hardware implementation; PI closed loop control method design for UPEC operation and deadbeat control method design for UPEC operation. Comparison between PI current control and deadbeat current control performance is presented.
