Abstract: In this thesis, three types of structural systems will be discussed: (1)single layered BiFeO3(BFO) thin film, (2)BiFeO3(BFO)/CoFe2O3(CFO) heterostructure and (3)PZT nanofibers. The first part of the project involves the investigation of BFO thin films deposited on SrRuO3(SRO) buffer layers. It is observed that larger grain SRO buffer layer is able to promote the growth of denser BFO thin film with an improvement in properties. A BFO/CFO heterostructure was also fabricated for the investigation of possible coupling behavior between BFO ferroelectric and CFO magnetic properties. Studies show that prolonged annealing subjected to the bottom BFO sub-layer has caused the degradation of the heterostructureb s properties. The last part of the project engages in the study of PZT nanofibers annealed under two different thermal conditions. Results shows that the piezoelectric properties of the PZT nanofibers were affected by the Pb loss effect, as a lower strain and d33 were measured for the higher Pb loss PZT nanofibers.
