Abstract: Very recently, nanostructured materials have attracted a great deal of attention from researchers in various fields for both their fundamental size-dependent properties and their many important technological applications. Intensive research efforts have been focused on the synthesis of well-defined uniformly sized nanomaterials in order to identify their size-dependent properties. Among these materials, ZnO nanomaterials have been one of the most intensively studied owing to their versatile properties and applications. This thesis mainly focuses on synthesis and self-assembly of ZnO-related nanostructures and nanocomposites like asymmetric ZnO nanostructures with an interior cavity, symmetric linear assembly of hourglass-like ZnO nanostructures, ZnO/PVP nanocomposite spheres, CoO/ZnO nanocomposites, and nanocomposite films of SAM/Pt/ZnO/SiO2. Furthermore, related physical and catalytic properties have been investigated.
