Abstract: Time-between-events (TBE) data are available in many areas such as manufacturing, maintenance, or service processes. Recently, control charts have been introduced to the monitoring of TBE and shown to be useful for detecting process shifts. However, existing TBE charts are still not mature and may face some difficulties in practical applications. Motivated by these problems, this research addressed several important issues of modeling and monitoring TBE in order to improve performance and efficiency of existing methods. Some new schemes were proposed, e.g. CUSUM/EWMA chart with transformed TBE data, CCC chart with Variable Sampling Intervals (VSI), and Weibull EWMA chart. The charting methods, optimal design procedures, performance of the charts and robustness to distribution changes were discussed with comprehensive comparative studies on the performance of these new schemes to the existing schemes. Results show that proposed methods provide effective modeling and monitoring of TBE in various circumstances.
