Abstract: The thesis shows the superior rolling properties of micro polymer and glass balls of micron size as rolling bearings for silicon based microsystems. Lifecycles over a million cycles at low friction were achieved. The major challenges in the experiments were found to be proper alignment of the rotating surfaces to avoid them contacting at the edges during the lifecycle tests.
