Abstract: The Present study entitled Study of Hydroplaning Characteristics of Rib Tires by Analytical Simulation proposes an analytical simulation model based on the theory of hydrodynamics. The simulation model is applied to analyze the effect of tire tread depth on hydroplaning for different surface water depths, effect of tire inflation pressure and the effect of different rib tire designs in terms of the number of grooves on hydroplaning risk of rib tires. The effect of different tire tread groove patterns on hydroplaning are measured in terms of various parameters like groove inclination angle, ratio of groove volume to rib area. Finally the effect of width and spacing of tread grooves on hydroplaning speed is studied for longitudinal and transverse tread patterns. The present study gives insight into the mechanism of hydroplaning and the effect of various tire characteristics on hydroplaning speed.
