Abstract: In the thesis, we study a Supply-Buffer-Demand system which considers both the age dependent preventive maintenance policy and the inventory control policy. We analyze the system and formulate an optimization model to describe the system, so that the optimal policies for age dependent maintenance and inventory control could be obtained. The model minimizes the total cost rate of the system, while satisfying the constraints for minimum required availability, minimum required reliability, and maximum required shortage rate. This model is a more general model compared to the previous study on a similar system. We propose numerical algorithms for solving the model. Numerical examples for the algorithms are presented, in which we solve the optimal maintenance and inventory policies for the examples. Sensitivity analysis is also done based on the results of these numerical examples.
