Abstract: In this thesis, I explore the periods after marriage migration by looking at a micro-level, the Thai migrant wivesb individual experiences with the different structural contexts in Singapore. I will apply Giddensb ideas on b dynamicb structure and the b dualityb of structure to interpret the interplay between Thai womenb s agency and Singaporeb s immigration legal structure, economic structure and socio-cultural structure. As unskilled transnational migrants, most Thai migrant wivesb lives will be highly restricted by the institutional structures in Singapore. Yet, any structure is also dynamic because it allows the actors involved to negotiate, reproduce, circumvent the structure and ultimately create change to benefit them.
