Abstract: Stimulated by the environmental, economic and commercial concerns, reverse logistics has recently received growing attention. Many companies with limited resources and knowledge of reverse logistics are incapable or unwilling to enter the reverse logistics market. Furthermore, the increasing opportunities for cost savings and customer satisfaction have prompted third party logistics providers (3PLs) to get involved in the forward and reverse logistics operations. Due to the difference and interaction between the forward and reverse distributions, how to integrate the forward and reverse channels has become an emerging issue. In the past, there are very few existing researches treating forward and reverse distribution simultaneously. This research attempts to develop analytic models considering forward and reverse distribution simultaneously for the 3PLs. The special considerations of the 3PLs are also emphasized in this research, including the tradeoff between cost and customer satisfaction and the characteristics in the 3PLsa?? distribution network.
