Abstract: Multi-carrier systems have the ability to enhance the data rate, improve the bandwidth efficiency and combat frequency selective fading. On the other hand, the multiple transmit and receive antennas transmission over multi-input multi-output (MIMO) channels is an emerging technique for high data rate wireless communication. The combination of these two systems, namely MIMO multicarrier system, exhibits all the advantages of both techniques. But, the orthogonality among the subcarriers is destroyed by carrier frequency offset (CFO), which degrades the performance of MIMO multicarrier systems. In this thesis, we present a blind CFO estimation algorithm with low computational complexity for MIMO multicarrier systems. We compare the performance the proposed estimator with another estimator from the literature. CRLB and theoretical MSE of the CFO estimator are derived to evaluate the performance. We show that the complexity of the proposed estimator is significantly low, yet the performance is quite good.
