COORDINATED CONTROL OF DISTRIBUTED ENERGY RESOURCES FOR EFFICIENT SMART GRID OPERATION. ScholarBank@NUS Repository. | Abstract: | Distributed Energy Resources, or DERs, are being integrated into the power system now more than ever. To fully appreciate the real benefits of increased integration of DERs, this thesis aims to develop robust strategies for their efficient integration in distribution networks/microgrids. To overcome the computation/communication bottlenecks encountered by several centralized algorithms in real-time large-scale optimization problems, such as for smart grids, firstly, a consensus-based distributed computational-intelligence (CI) algorithm is proposed for optimal control. Secondly, interconnected smart microgrids are studied and a distributed model-predictive strategy is developed enabling them to control their internal devices as well as trade energy among each other optimally. Thirdly, an efficient distributed strategy is developed for ancillary service coordination in the interconnected system of a medium voltage microgrid and a low voltage distribution network (LVDN) to enable the microgrid operator and the LVDN Aggregator, which are selfish entities, to perform ancillary service power exchanges. | URI: | http://scholarbank.nus.edu.sg/handle/10635/152224 |
