Abstract: The study aimed to investigate the relations between values, classroom cultural climate, and learning approach of students in Singapore, Indonesia, the Philippines, and Australia. The findings indicated that students across the four cultures adhered to different value systems, particularly on values concerning conformity, self-direction, hedonism, tradition, and religious belief. Personal interactions between students and their teachers in Singapore, Indonesian, and Filipino classrooms were found to be more hierarchical than those in the Australian classrooms. Although the four cultural groups showed differences in the process of learning, there was cross-cultural agreement that the achieving approach was adopted in conjunction with the deep approach rather than the surface approach. Although the relations between values, learning environment, and learning approach in general supported the hypotheses, culture-specific relationships were also revealed. Findings were discussed in relation to differences in the sociocultural and educational contexts prevailing of the four countries.
