ASSESSING INPATIENT DIABETES MELLITUS CARE WITH DATA ANALYTICS. ScholarBank@NUS Repository. | Abstract: | Inpatient glycemic control is a critical component in inpatient diabetes care and a suboptimal control could result in hypoglycemia and hyperglycemia. Following the recommendations by the American Association of Clinical Endocrinologists and American Diabetes Association, a multi-faceted and pragmatic inpatient diabetes mellitus (DM) program was implemented in a tertiary hospital in Singapore. Such programs should be evaluated regularly to assess their influence on care processes, intermediary outcomes, clinical outcomes, and economic outcomes. Leveraging on the electronic health records, we assessed the inpatient DM program and found significant improvement in outcomes after its implementation. We developed a more powerful analytical method to analyze dichotomized glucose outcomes. We demonstrated the utility of distributional analytics for assessing daily adherence of inpatient glucose monitoring protocol. We investigated the feasibility of using visualizations to communicate adherence to repetitive scheduled tasks among healthcare workers. Our work highlights the role that data analytics can play in healthcare. | URI: | http://scholarbank.nus.edu.sg/handle/10635/151177 |
