The objective of this report is to give an introduction to characteristic classes in Number Theory. The theory developed will be applied to find torsion elements in the class group of a number field. In particular, we will look at the cases of quadratic number fields and a certain class of cubic number fields. Finally in the last chapter, we will make some study relating to Fermat's Last Theorem throught the cyclotomic fields.
