Abstract: It has been recognized that spatial diversity using multiple antennas is an efficient technique to combat the severe destructive effects of fading and interference on the performance of mobile wireless communication system. Most of the previous research works in these areas make assumptions such as synchronous interference, perfect channel estimation, to simplify the analysis. However in reality such assumptions don't hold in most of time. In this thesis we address the effects of these practical issues, design optimal diversity system and analyze the performance. Specific problems covered by this thesis include asynchronous cochannel-interference, channel estimation for transmit-receive diversity system and space-time block codes.
