Abstract: This thesis describes the successful design and prototype development of a novel electro-adsorption chiller (EAC) that symbiotically combines the adsorption and the thermoelectric cooling cycles. The construction of the bench-scale EAC is the first step towards the miniaturization of chiller has the virtues of (a) compactness (b)scale-independence (c) almost nearly free of moving parts( with the exception of fan) (d) efficient in converting input electrical power to useful cooling (e) readily fabricated with off-the-shelve components and (f) employ non-toxic environmentally-friendly materials. The measured COP (Coefficient of Performance) of EAC is 0.86 which is close to the maximum theoretical expected COP of 1.105 under the same reservoir conditions
