Abstract: Social influence is one of the major deciding factor in patient’s decision making. This present study explored the source of social influence in dialysis-related decision making among chronic kidney disease (CKD) patients and the type of involvement emanated from each source of social influence. This study was part of an ongoing project Building the Kidney Confidence Project. Patient’s interview transcripts were extracted from the qualitative phase of study and thematic data analysis was conducted. Data analysis showed there were three sources of social influence, namely family members, friends and acquaintances and also media. Family involvement were demarcated into active involvement, passive involvement, indirect involvement and non-involvement. Friends and acquaintances were manifested in the form of active involvement, passive involvement and indirect involvement. Media swerved patient’s decision through information portrayed on electronic media and printed materials. In light of the result, family-centered pre-dialysis education, peer support group led by healthcare professions and public CKD programmes should be advocated.
