dc.description.abstract | Any production facility desires consistent high-quality performance of control systems for generating continuous benefits. This work aims to provide tools for performance assessment and enhancement of control loops for handling stochastic disturbances. The best PI/PID controller is used as a benchmark for performance assessment rather than minimum variance controller, owing to the fact that 95% of industrial controllers are of PI/PID type. A filter based approach is proposed to answer the following key issues related to performance monitoring of control loops: 1. PI achievable performance assessment for SISO and multiloop control systems.2. Evaluation of best achievable performance with the alternate I/O pairing.3. Estimation of possible performance enhancement with the decouplers.4. Assessment of performance improvement possible with a multivariable controller. 5. Tradeoff curve between output variance and control effort (for PI controllers). | |
