Abstract: In this work, we firstly focus on the degradation studies of polar pesticides in environmental water samples under different pH and irradiation sources by LC-APCI-MS. Propoxur was selected as a model polar pesticide for this investigation. Second, microwave-assisted extraction (MAE) was applied for the first time to study the thermal degradation of carbamate pesticides in soil samples. In order to obtain optimum MAE conditions for carbamate extractions, orthogonal array design (OAD) was employed for the analysis of four carbamates from soil. The theory and methodology of a new OA16 (44) matrix derived from an OA16 (215) matrix was developed during the MAE optimization, and an ANOVA technique was used for data analysis. Furthermore, the applicability of OAD with an OA8 (27) matrix for the optimization of MAE conditions for the extraction of propoxur and its transformation products from biological samples has also been evaluated.
