Abstract: Research indicates that harmful airborne bacteria and fungi can affect indoor air quality significantly, especially in air-conditioned rooms. Air conditioning ducts provide an ideal environment with high humidity and temperature for their growth. Therefore, indoor air quality is increasingly a health concern worldwide. Numerous methods have been tried to mitigate the problem of biological contamination. Ultraviolet (UV) radiation with titanium dioxide (TiO2) as a photocatalyst is considered as the effective way to destroy biological contaminants because of its ability for complete degradation of the pollutants. However, very little information exists in literature for developing full-scale disinfection unit applicable to room air. In this study, batch and continuous disinfection of three types of bacteria were conducted by varying the amount of TiO2 coating on membranes and the intensity of UV radiation. Successful protocol has been established to generate bio-aerosol from seed suspension and to analyze the colonies formed before and after the disinfection. In addition, sampling of indoor and outdoor air was conducted to determine the bacterial and fungal concentration in both indoor and outdoor air
