Abstract: To apply statistical process control in injection mould manufacturing, short-run SPC methods should be used. Due to the characteristics of mould manufacturing, direct application of short-run SPC presents many problems. An approach is proposed in this thesis to solve these problems. The injection mould manufacturing processes are discussed first. To make the SPC planning more efficient, mould parts are divided into standardized and non-standardized parts. The features on non-standardized parts are further subdivided into standardized features and non-standardized features. Secondly, SPC planning is discussed, which includes defining and identifying SPC process, forming and identifying part family, identification of quality characteristics, selection of data transformation method and control chart. Rules and methods of SPC planning for standardized parts and non-standardized part are presented. In SPC implementation, the issues related to data collection, data recording, control charting and chart interpretation are discussed. Four case studies are given to illustrate the proposed approach.
