Abstract: THE HUMAN CYTOMEGALOVIRUS NON CODING ?2.7 RNA CAN NATURALLY LOCALIZE IN THE MITOCHONDRIA. WE PROPOSE THAT FOUR THERMODYNAMICALLY STABLE DOMAINS GOVERN THE MITOCHONDRIAL UPTAKE OF THE ?2.7 RNA WITH DOMAINS RETAINING STRUCTURAL AND FUNCTIONAL ATTRIBUTES EVEN IN THE ANTISENSE ?2.7 RNA. ADDITIONALLY ?2.7 RNA CAN CO-DELIVER AND TRIGGER GFP EXPRESSION IN THE MITOCHONDRIA. AT THE SAME TIME ?2.7 MEDIATED DELIVERY OF ANTISENSE RNA TO THE MITOCHONDRIA RESULTS IN KNOCKDOWN OF MITOCHONDRIALLY ENCODED ATP6 AND ATP8
