Abstract: The main aim of this research is to clarify the key mechanism pertaining to the separation and reinforcement contributions of geotextiles in unpaved road application via extensive laboratory model tests and numerical study. This research also seeks to evaluate the relative importance between these two contributions at different loading condition and different characteristic of geotextiles. To achieve the aim, the behaviour of geotextiles stabilised unpaved road systems subjected to static and tracking load were established. Numerical study was performed to complement the static load tests and to investigate possible soil-geotextiles interaction mechanism that contribute to the observed behaviour in the model tests. Finally, the separation and reinforcement contribution of the geotextiles under the static and tracking load was quantified.
