Abstract: Many mobile apps now implement complex functionalities and it is inevitably for them to store and process users' private information. Therefore, people become increasingly concerned about 1) whether the apps that are used to perform sensitive tasks and store their private information are secure; and 2) what the apps can potentially infer from the data collected on their mobile devices. To investigate the concerns above, this thesis aims at analyzing the security and privacy issues from the design and implementation of mobile apps of critical tasks and data processing with different state-of-the-art techniques and systematic approaches. We specifically focus on three common scenarios including authentication, payment and sensor data processing which are representative critical tasks for mobile users.
