Title: | Receiver design for multi-band ultra-wideband systems | Authors: | WONG SAI HO | Keywords: | UWB, MMSE, RAKE, multi-band, over-sampling, coding | Issue Date: | 21-Jan-2005 | Citation: | WONG SAI HO (2005-01-21). Receiver design for multi-band ultra-wideband systems. ScholarBank@NUS Repository. | Abstract: | The design of the multi-band ultra-wideband (UWB) receiver is presented, including receiver filter design, acquisition, equalization, coding and multi-user interference. This work recommends a common filter design that has high energy captured and favorable correlation properties. It proposes a rapid acquisition design that makes use of certain properties peculiar to multi-band UWB. It includes a coding scheme that is powerful but of low complexity, by concatenating Reed-Solomon and Quadrature M-ary Orthogonal Keying as outer- and inner- code respectively. Attention has been paid to equalization, comparing between MMSE and RAKE, two oft-used UWB receiver schemes. The results show that while inter-symbol interference (ISI) caused error floor in RAKE receiver in some cases, MMSE is effective in ISI-alleviation at all modes and channel models. With coding, the bit error rate performance is further improved. Coded MMSE equalizer is shown to be able to counter multi-user interference, handling piconet collision of different severity. | URI: | http://scholarbank.nus.edu.sg/handle/10635/14424 |
