Abstract: The numerical modelling of anchor interaction was studied in this thesis. New element named anchor-interface element were developed for modelling of anchor interaction using finite element method (FEM). Closed form solutions of elastic and elastoplastic anchor soil interaction were derived and used to verify the correctness of the theoretical frame work and the program algorithms. The advantages of the proposed element over the conventional element and limitations of the proposed element were demonstrated through a case study of axially loaded pile. The capability of the proposed element in capturing the salient phenomena of anchor-soil interaction was explored through a numerical simulation of pull-out test for anchor in residual soil and granite. The performance of the proposed element was further tested in analyses of an excavation in sand and a deep excavation in soft Singapore marine clay. The performance of the proposed element in these full scale excavations was assessed.
