Title: | SYNTHESIS, PHYSICAL PROPERTIES AND APPLICATIONS OF BODIPY BASED RADICALS AND NEAR INFRARED DYES | Authors: | MIAO FANG | Keywords: | BODIPY,radical, near infrared dye, sensor,pH,stability | Issue Date: | 26-Jan-2018 | Citation: | MIAO FANG (2018-01-26). SYNTHESIS, PHYSICAL PROPERTIES AND APPLICATIONS OF BODIPY BASED RADICALS AND NEAR INFRARED DYES. ScholarBank@NUS Repository. | Abstract: | BODIPYs own distinct optical and electronic properties. Recent research in our group has demonstrated that hydrocarbon radicals exhibited very unique optical, electronic and magnetic properties. In this dissertation, we have designed and synthesized a series of BODIPY-based radicals, and their physical properties, stabilities were investigated. The systems we studied include the followings: (1) BODIPY blocked anthroxyl radicals, and we found that the four methyl groups on the BODIPY part could efficiently stabilize the anthroxyl radical and this radical selectively responded to hydroxyl radical over other reactive oxygen species; (2) a biphenoxyl connected BODIPY, which is a closed-shell quinoidal compound in the ground state but in high polarity solvent open-shell radical form was attained; (3) BODIPY blocked trithienylmethyl radical, which turned out to be not very persistent under inert condition; and (4) BODIPY based pH sensors and one of them could stain later endosome in live cells. | URI: | http://scholarbank.nus.edu.sg/handle/10635/143324 |
