dc.description.abstract | Ozone based AOPs, especially O3/H2O2 process is a promising and cost effective method for the removal of many pharmaceutical and personal care products (PPCPs). In O3/H2O2 process, ozone undergoes a radical chain reaction with the constituents present in water (initiator, promoter and inhibitor), to produce a highly potent oxidant hydroxyl radical (•OH). Natural organic matter (NOM) and effluent organic matter (EfOM) present in natural water and wastewater affects the O3/H2O2 process as they can act as an initiator, inhibitor and promoter. In this study, different reaction rate constants of NOM/EfOM in natural water and secondary effluent were characterized and their influences on three PPCPs such as acetaminophen, bezafibrate and ibuprofen were studied for degradation in the presence of NOM/ EfOM using modified Rct concept for O3/H2O2 process. Additionally, the kinetic studies were performed using different graphene based heterogeneous catalysts and compared with ozonation alone and O3/H2O2 processes. | |
