Abstract: Copper is well known material used in alloys, wiring and as backend interconnects in semiconductor integrated circuits. It is known for its high conductivity and relative abundance allowing many applications in everyday life. Through nanomaterial research into copper and its compounds, there has been a surge in new applications such as photovoltaic cells, catalysts and sensors. In this thesis, three of the materials would be explored in detail. Namely nano-copper coated carbon-nanotubes, copper silicide and copper sulphide. While some of the materials have been studied before, many of the synthesis methods are complicated and may not be scale easily in an industrial setting. This thesis focuses on fabricating these compounds using relatively established methods of Chemical Vapour Deposition (CVD) and Sputtering which are well known processes with easily tuned parameters to further optimize the fabrication. Through these methods of fabrication, these materials can be better understood.
