Abstract: The present work includes the experimental work and computational simulation on the performance of vertical hydrodynamic herringbone grooved journal bearings which become a new technique used in the hard disk drive manufacture. Experimental work were conducted to investigate the effect of groove pattern, the groove depth and the viscosity of the lubricant. The CFD software FLUENT and ARMD were used to simulate the fluid flow of the lubricant between the sleeve and the journal bearing. The results were compared with the experimental results and analyzed. The results show accordance between the experiment and computational simulation.
