Abstract: The aim of the present study is to develop an efficient solver being capable of dealing with complex flow fields in stenosed tubes and then to apply the developed numerical solver to study the flow phenomena through arterial stenoses. A fully implicit numerical method is developed to solve steady and unsteady incompressible laminar and turbulent flows based on artificial compressibility method and dual-time approach. A variety of computed results are presented to validate the present method. The flow structures of steady and pulsatile laminar and turbulent flows through arterial stenoses are predicted using the developed solver. Comparisons on the numerical results for three pulsatile flows are presented for both laminar and turbulent flows. Furthermore, the effects of various parameters on the flow fields for the physiological pulsatile flow are studied systematically. A detailed insight into the complex flow fields through stenosed tubes under realistic physiological conditions has been provided here.
