Abstract: The projecta??s aim is to build a remote-controlled electric-powered ornithopter (RC-EPO) which can be airborne. This objective has been achieved, with the RC-EPO flying for more than 8 minutes. New types of wings like the spring wings have been designed while different flapping mechanisms have also been analyzed to improve the performance of the RC-EPO. Moreover, a computer program based on Delauriera??s flapping wing model has been written to simulate the flapping flighta??s aerodynamic performance. Although the program cannot be used to determine the current RC-EPOa??s performance due to different wing structure, it will be useful for future RC-EPOa??s developments.
