Abstract: The massive demographic and economic shift towards the coastal regions causes serious adverse effects to the environment. Therefore, the understanding of coastal processes has become a key factor towards a sustainable development.For the assessment of coastal processes such as dispersion of pollutant in complex bathymetry or complex physical and bio-chemical processes, the employments of full three-dimensional models are required. However, few have been applied to Singaporea??s coastal waters due to numerical limitations, which should be overcome using the latest development of the art such as COHERENS.In this study, COHERENS is modified to simulate physical processes in Singaporea??s coastal waters. First, a hydrodynamic large-scale model is developed and validated. Second, a dispersion model is developed to simulate the far field mixing of brine discharge from a desalination plant. As a result, the accuracy and the numerical stability of the hydrodynamic model are proven, as well as, the ability of the dispersion model.
