Abstract: The reactivity of [CpCr(CO)3]2 (Cp = C5H5) towards several classes of organo- C-, N- and S- compounds have been studied. The organic substrates include: (i) 2,5-dimercapto-1,3,4-thiadiazole, (DMcTH2), HS(CN2SC)SH; (ii) 5,5'-dithiobis(1-phenyl-1H-tetrazole), (STz)2, (C6H5N4CS)2 and (iii) 2,2'-dithiodipyridine, (SPy)2, (C5H5NS)2. The primary products from these reactions were CpCr(CO)3(DMcTH), CpCr(CO)3(STz) and CpCr(CO)2SPy respectively. The cothermolysis of [CpCr(CO)3]2 and CpCr(CO)3(STz) led to the isolation of the phenyltriazenidotrisulfido cubane Cp4Cr4S3(I?3-N3Ph) and phenyltriazenidodisulfido-aminocarbyne cubane Cp4Cr4S2(I?3-N3Ph)(I?3-NCCrCp(CO)2). The reactivity of CpCr(CO)3(STz) and CpCr(CO)2SPy towards acids, methylating and oxidising reagents, and coordinating fragments were investigated.
