Abstract: Recently, much attention has been given to the design of multiplierless multirate filter banks. Among all the various types of this class of filter bank, the lattice-structure perfect-reconstruction (PR) filter bank presents a desirable feature that the PR property is preserved even under coefficient quantization.In this thesis, the design of multiplierless two-channel lattice filter bank is discussed with respect to two aspects. First, several optimization techniques for the design of signed power-of-two (SPT) coefficient lattice filter bank are developed. Second, the statistical SPT rounding error distribution and the effects of rounding the coefficient values to SPT values on the frequency response are studied. An SPT term allocation scheme is developed and incorporated into the optimization techniques for the design of SPT coefficient filter banks with different number of SPT terms being allocated to each coefficient keeping the total number of SPT terms fix.In addition, a new polyphase implementation technique is introduced; this new technique preserves the coefficient symmetry for each of the polyphase components.
