Abstract: The computing systems have been rapidly developed in recent years and widely implemented in many areas. Reliability measure is a useful tool for evaluating the performance of the computing systems. As the functionality of computing operations becomes more essential, the reliability models and analysis for various computing systems are presented and studied by this dissertation. This dissertation systematically studies the reliability of pure software, pure hardware and integrated software/hardware systems. It also presented some new models in the reliability analysis of the distributed/networked systems. Then, it originally constructs general reliability models for the grid computing systems and presents analytical tools to estimate the grid reliability. This work further presents some new models for various multi-state systems considering multi-level protections as well as failure correlations etc. Finally, some interesting optimization problems in the testing resource allocation on both independent modules and dependent versions are discussed by this work.
