Title: | THERMAL AND THERMOELECTRIC PROPERTIES OF TWO-DIMENSIONAL HETEROSTRUCTURES | Authors: | LIU YI | Keywords: | thermal, thermoelectrics, 2D materials, MoS2, WSe2, h-BN | Issue Date: | 29-Sep-2017 | Citation: | LIU YI (2017-09-29). THERMAL AND THERMOELECTRIC PROPERTIES OF TWO-DIMENSIONAL HETEROSTRUCTURES. ScholarBank@NUS Repository. | Abstract: | Since the (re-)discovery of graphene, atomically thin two-dimensional (2D) materials have progressed rapidly due to their interesting physics and potential applications. Van der Waals heterostructures with one 2D material stacked on another, are being established for devices with new functionalities and improved properties. The study of thermal properties is important for heat management of electronic devices while good thermoelectric properties are desired for energy-conversion devices. Despite numerous studies on the electrical and optical properties of 2D materials, less attention has been paid to their thermal and thermoelectric properties. In this thesis, we study the thermal and thermoelectric properties of 2D heterostructures, including interface thermal conductance across MoS2/h-BN and graphene/h-BN, thermoelectric transport in MoS2 on h-BN, and thermoelectric transport in MoS2/WSe2 p-n junctions. Our studies provide reference for the design of electronic/optoelectronic devices based on 2D heterostructures regarding heat management, and indicate 2D semiconductors as promising candidates for potential thermoelectric applications. | URI: | http://scholarbank.nus.edu.sg/handle/10635/139719 |
