Abstract: This thesis essentially summarizes a body of work done on the synthesis of complex assemblies of facet to facet linked colloidal semiconductor nanocrystals as well as detailed investigation of their physiochemical and optoelectronic properties. In the first part of this thesis, we demonstrate that cadmium chalcogenide nanocrystals of varying composition and morphology can be linked in a controlled manner via fusion of specific Ag2X (X=S,Se,Te) domains formed by partial cation exchange process with Ag+. Cation back-exchange with Cd2+ yields purely homogeneous anisotropic assemblies of linked nanocrystals which are investigated through different characterization techniques. We extend our technique to synthesize hetero-linked nanostructures composed of two different materials, CdX1-CdX2 (X1≠X2), linked into one architecture in a stoichiometrically controlled manner via competitive cation exchange process. Lastly, we show fabrication of solvogels and their conversion into porous aerogels via extensive linking of nanocrystals in solution which is faster than previously reported methods.
