Abstract: The objective of the present study is to investigate the effect of suspended sediment on the velocity and concentration profiles in open channel turbulent flow. The modified log- wake law which represents the entire vertical velocity profile of the clear water flow is presented and applied in the sediment-laden flow by changing parameter previously assumed. The von Karman constant, the turbulence transfer coefficient and the flow resistance in the sediment-laden flow are compared with those in the clear water. The general concentration profile equation that completely describes the distribution of sediment concentration over the whole depth is developed based on modified log-wake law and tested against the early experimental data. Finally, the parameters that relate with the sediment transfer mechanism are investigated and discussed.
