dc.description.abstract | This thesis aims to address important research problems in realizing efficient wireless powered communication (WPC), where wireless devices communicate using the energy harvested by wireless energy transfer (WET). First, we study new channel training methods to achieve efficient WET via distributed energy beamforming (EB). We propose and analyze distributed protocols where distributed energy transmitters adapt their transmit phases based on a low-complexity energy feedback from a single energy receiver. Next, we investigate collaboration in a multi-user simultaneous wireless information and power transfer (SWIPT) system. We derive the optimal mode switching rule at receivers and the corresponding transmit signal design at transmitters to optimize the achievable rate-energy trade-off. Last, we study the interference management in WPC. We propose two coexisting models for a secondary WPC network (WPCN) and a primary communication system, and maximize the sum-throughput of the WPCN while managing the interference caused by WPCN’s transmission at the primary receivers. | |
